Brumley Forest to be protected by Triangle Land Conservancy
Less than 20 years ago, a large forest north of Chapel Hill was under consideration to become an 800-homesite development. The property, filled with trees, ponds and wildlife, was to be known as the University Station development and would have housed hundreds, perhaps thousands, of people.
On Monday, that property – now known as Brumley Forest – will instead be dedicated to the memory of George and Julia Brumley and their family as a Triangle Land Conservancy (TLC) nature preserve.

But the last time Perry Deane Young was in the region, in 1972, the distance from Phnom Penh to what’s now called Ho Chi Minh City seemed considerable. War has that effect on distances.
ArtsCenter campaign falls short of fundraising goal
The ArtsCenter closed out a three-month fundraising campaign on July 1 at $160,000, less than half of its $350,000 goal.
Efland sewer rate hike questioned
About 90 citizens and members of the advocacy group Justice United met with County Manager Frank Clifton and County Commissioner Steve Yuhasz at the Orange County Library on Monday night to discuss the impact of a recent 300 percent rate hike for sewer services in Efland.
Chatham County budget hearing
The Chatham County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on June 1 to receive comments from residents on the county’s proposed budget. The hearing will begin at 6 p.m. in the multipurpose room at Central Carolina Community College.
