Here at The Citizen, we often extol the value of a good walk in the woods.
Occasionally the rewards offered by such an endeavor are pleasing to the palate as well, evidenced, we hope, by the lovely bowl of morels pictured at right.

If you’re wondering what’s making you sneeze or why the car is now pale green, there’s a simple and quick way to get a look. Tonight or any night for the next few weeks, wait till it’s good and dark and take a flashlight outside. (Get close to a wooded area if you want the full effect.) Shine the light up away from you and take a look at what is illuminated by the beam. This is that time of year when, as botanist Ritchie Bell used to say, “the trees are getting frisky.”

A recent story in the Charlotte Observer says Evans noticed that the state board of elections website allowed him to lookup the birthdates of every voter on the rolls (close to 6 million folks). After he alerted state officials, they changed the site.

Carrboro’s Erica Eisdorfer has long been known in book circles around here and not just because she’s managed the Bullshead Book Shop on campus for so many years.
Her name got a little wider circulation this week after Amazon.com named her new work, The Wet Nurse’s Tale, one of the top ten finalists in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Contest.
