The UPS Store at Carrboro Plaza announced earlier this month that customers now have the option to neutralize the climate impact of shipping their packages by selecting the store’s carbon-neutral option.
The fee ranges from 5 to 75 cents, depending on the shipment specifications. UPS will match offset purchases up to $1 million in 2010.
UPS calculates the carbon emissions associated with customers’ shipments and then purchases and retires carbon offsets to mitigate the effects. The calculator is based on the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, the most widely used international standard for carbon accounting and reporting.
