The Carrboro Farmers’ Market will hold its 13th annual Tomato Day on July 17, with a special emphasis this year on the much-honored vegetable’s humble beginnings in the Americas.
The market will feature special tastings of dishes from the Americas along with lively Latin music and recipes, signs and trivia in both Spanish and English. There also will be tomato-themed face painting available for the children.
Farmers at the market grow more than 60 varieties of heirloom, grafted, seed-saved, exotic and native tomatoes. A display of all of the varieties of tomatoes grown by the farmers will be arrayed in the gazebo at Town Commons – including samples of cherry tomatoes.
