A ribbon-cutting event for HOPE Gardens, a new community garden at 2200 Homestead Road in Chapel Hill, is set for Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A joint project of the Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation Department and the Homeless Outreach Poverty Eradication committee, the garden and education center also serves as a transitional-employment program for homeless participants. The event features workshops from 11 a.m. to noon on sustainable agriculture, food forests and garden art, along with fresh food and tours.
