To quote a good friend of mine today, it is clear some people remain absolutely “clueless.†No, we are not applauding Mayor Foy’s proposal to site a [waste transfer station] on Millhouse, which still amounts to dumping the entire county’s garbage in our community.
As a matter of fact, one community member I spoke with became absolutely livid and near-hysterical: she is sick and tired of the garbage, the stench, the rats, the noise, the buzzards – in short, the environmental contamination and injustice. A WTS on Millhouse means the garbage era will be never-ending, and the idea that her grandchildren will live on their land dealing with the same environmental issues sickens her even more.
No, neither the county nor the towns are committing funds to provide reparations to the Rogers-Eubanks Community (which, yes, includes Millhouse Road). That the community would receive long-overdue reparations (or services, amenities – however one likes to describe them) is a myth. I have attended two meetings with Mayor Foy and one with Mayor Foy and Valerie Foushee together, and each has made this fact absolutely clear.
But it wouldn’t matter anyway, because this community is not for sale.
Yes, during the 2007 Orange County Enhancement Task Force Meetings, Millhouse Road was indeed discussed as part of the Historic Community. It has always been considered as such. However, the map that eventually came to delineate an “Enhancement†area does not include Millhouse Road – how this came to be is another whole discussion. But think about it: I am sure it will come to you.
