The Scroggs family has made a $10,000 donation to Scroggs Elementary School to honor the school’s namesake, Mary A. Scroggs. The gift is unrestricted and can be used as the principal and school see fit.
Scroggs served on the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Board of Education from 1961 until 1977 and is known for her work toward desegregation and for the construction of several schools at a time of extreme overcrowding.
