I find it hard not to view this as a special interest project that you are asking me as a taxpayer to fund. I don't work or live in downtown Carrboro and see no specific reason to pay for those who do. Providing hotels, retail, and mixed office spaces with internet connectivity isn't a burden that taxpayers should be carrying.

Getting internet to low income neighborhoods is of interest, but most of those neighborhoods are wired with cable, so I think we need to discuss new infrastructure but rather how to pay for the service.

I agree with you Sophie. The primary goal of the non-profit I started, Orange Networking, has always been to bridge the digital divide. Its been a topic of several of my comments at Town of Chapel Hill council meetings. I will continue to fight to bring coverage to neighborhoods like Rogers Road.

To make this happen in our communities we need local business on our side. I believe many local business and property owners have kind hearts and want to see this happen.

I would like to see ALL of the town, including the low income areas like Rogers Road, get complete coverage before this sort of fancy system is installed for those who already have internet access.
