United Church of Chapel Hill will be holding its 19th Alternative Christmas Market this weekend on Saturday, Nov. 22 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and on Sunday, Nov.23 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The market will feature everything from art to rain barrels to knife sharpening, with a portion of the proceeds going to charity.
Eleven local artists will show and sell their work in “Art for a Cause,” which will feature pottery, weaving, paintings, photography, jewelry, ethnic jackets and more.
A portion of the proceeds from the market will be donated to Church World Service, an inter-denominational aid group working to wipe out hunger and poverty and promote peace and justice. Thirty-five denominations participate in the group’s activities, which have helped people in over 80 countries since its founding in 1946.
The church is located at 1321 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Chapel Hill. For more information, visit their website at www.unitedchurch.org.
