News brief: Chancellor Thorp’s installation marks University Day celebration

UNC Chancellor Holden Thorp will be installed as the university’s 10th chancellor in a ceremony during University Day on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Polk Place on the UNC campus. The day falls on the birthday of the University, also called University Day. The day commemorates the 1793 placing of the cornerstone of Old East.

The UNC Symphony band, the UNC Wind Ensemble and the Carolina Choir will perform prior to the ceremony at 2:40 p.m. A reception will follow the ceremony. The event is free and open to the public.
Distinguished Alumna/Alumnas Awards will also be presented.

Free parking with a shuttle service will be available from the Dean Smith Center beginning at 2 p.m. If it is raining, the event will be held in the Dean Smith Center. For more information, visit www.unc.edu/chan/installation
