This weekend in Carrboro will be extra-artsy. The 2nd Friday ArtWalk will show you visual art, Shakori Hills will play music for you, and The West End Poets Weekend will showcase our literary talent.
The 2ndFriday Artwalk is Friday evening, from 6 to 9 p.m. Galleries all around town host new artwork and often receptions for meeting the artist. Some also feature live music. See political photos at the new Jesse Kalisher gallery, or drop by The ArtsCenter for their two gallery shows and check out the Open Jazz Jam — community jazz!
Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival of Music and Dance lasts Thursday through Sunday. But this festival is way more than music — fun for the whole family and good for the soul, the festival teaches sustainable education, craft and health workshops, has food, fun for kids, and of course, music! Come out to the Shakori Hills farmstead, support a good mission and spread the good vibrations. See www.shakorihills.org for tickets and a full schedule.
The West End Poets Weekend comes around only once a year, and this year it’s Saturday at the Carrboro Century Center and DSI Comedy Theater. The first program starts at 11 a.m.at the Century Center and will feature poetry for kids. At 12:30, The Tarheel poets will read from their works and transition over to the NC poets from 2-4 p.m. From there, the show moves to DSI where Carrboro & Hillsborough Laureates, published poets, and poet-musicians will perform.
