School Brief: Seeking volunteers

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools needs volunteers for a variety of school programs.

Training for volunteers will begin in September. To register for training, call 967-8211, ext. 281, or email mshaver@chccs.k12.nc.us. Registration and more information about various opportunities is also available online at www.chccs.k12.nc.us. Selected volunteer opportunities include:

• School Reading Partners: Help beginning readers practice reading skills, one to two hours weekly, Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public Schools. Training is scheduled for Sept. 18 and 23, 5:30 to 9 p.m., or Sept. 25 9 a.m. to noon. To register, email srp@chccs.k12.nc.us or call 967-8211, ext. 336.

• ESL Volunteers: Help K-12 students who are learning English during the school day. Training is scheduled for Sept. 17 or 25, 5:30 to 9 p.m. To register, email gmccay@chccs.k12.nc.us or call 967-8211, ext. 339.
