Four Democratic candidates are running for one District Two seat on the Board of County Commissioners. No Republicans are running for county commissioner in the district.

A 2006 referendum approved by voters increased the board from five to seven members and split the county into two voting districts. With the exception of a portion near I-40 and Whitfield Road, the two new county districts mirror the two school systems’ boundaries, with District Two similar to the Orange County Schools District and District One similar to the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools District.

Only District Two residents may vote in the District Two candidate primary; however, in the general election, all eligible county voters can vote for the candidates to represent District One, District Two and at-large.

District Two candidates for the Board of County Commissioners include Leo Allison, Luther Brooks, Tommy McNeill and Steve Yuhasz.

Allison, 75, is retired, but worked in quality control at IBM and for Legal Aid of North Carolina. He lives in Efland.
Brooks, 52, is a pastor. He is a Hillsborough resident.

McNeill, 45, is a hospital account manager for King Pharmaceuticals and is retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He lives in northeastern Orange County.

Yuhasz, 57, is a Hillsborough land surveyor. He lives in Hillsborough.
