One-stop early voting Early voting begins Thursday, April 17, for the May 6 election. Unregistered but eligible voters can register at early-voting sites with identification showing their name and current address. Doing this means that you can only vote at the early-voting site. Registered voters can change registration information but not party affiliation.

Police are investigating a recent string of armed robberies in Carrboro and Chapel Hill that targeted Latino victims.
According to Captain J.G. Booker of the Carrboro Police Department, most of the robberies involved young black men approaching Latino victims in apartment complex parking lots and displaying a weapon. The robberies began at the end of January, but have become more frequent in recent weeks.

With some reluctance, the Carrboro Board of Aldermen agreed with an Orange Water and Sewer Authority recommendation to move from Stage III to Stage I water-conservation rules.
At their Tuesday night meeting at Town Hall, board members said they shared the same concerns OWASA had heard the night before from Chapel Hill Town Council members about loosening restrictions.

Children, teens and their families may now obtain psychotherapy and evaluation services at affordable rates through a new community clinic operated by psychologists at UNC. The clinic offers both diagnostic evaluation and therapy services to the public on a sliding-fee scale based on household income.

Orange County’s Animal Services Department continues its low-cost rabies vaccination clinics this week. Under state law, pets over the age of four months must have a current rabies vaccination. The clinics are April 19, from 10 a.m. to noon, and April 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Orange County Animal Shelter off Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Chapel Hill.

Michael Ingram, the former head soccer coach at East Chapel Hill High School, was indicted and arrested last week on child pornography charges.
Ingram, 38, has been charged with seven counts each of second- and third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, according to the State Bureau of Investigation.

Jason Perkins resigned as a social studies teacher at Woods Charter School last week after being charged with 10 counts of sexual exploitation of minors.
Perkins, 38, of 540 Sutter Gate Lane in Morrisville, taught middle school students at Woods Charter. He was arrested last Thursday and released after posting bail.
