Why should they have to pay and those who aren't selling their property not???? You don't need to be a math major to see this does not compute. Where has the local government been? Dancing at Weaver Street? This transfer tax is a drop in the bucket, and subsidises renters, who are the ones requiring the additional schools (according to Chapel Hill Schools). The renters are getting a free ride on the backs of the homeowners, who already pay the highest taxes in the State. Vote non-incumbent. It is way past time for a change. The ones running the show are going to bankrupt us! $200 million in added costs? $3 million a year from the transfer tax? You don’t need to be a math major to see this does not compute.
