Community Brief: Platanos play

Jan 30, 2008 Community Jump to Comments

The Blue Ribbon Mentor-Advocate Program and the Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Black Culture and History will co-sponsor a performance of the off-Broadway play Platanos and Collard Greens on March 1.

The play addresses stereotypes, prejudices and urban myths that exist between blacks and Latinos. Based on the David Lamb novel Do Platanos go Wit’ Collard Greens, the play dispels misconceptions within the context of hip-hop, humor and satire.

The performance will start at 2 p.m. at the Stone Center on the UNC campus. Free tickets are available, with a limit of four per person, at the Stone Center front desk, open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. For more information, call 962-9001.
