Chili cookoff
Infinity Biodynamic Farm will host a Chili Cookoff to raise money for the Cedar Grove Community Crossroads Project. The project aims to raise money to restore a historic Cedar Grove home as a community grocery co-op. The Cookoff takes place Saturday, Nov. 24 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the barn and will also feature an arts & crafts sale, music and other food.

Entry in the competition is $25, first prize is $300. All chili ingredients must be local or organic. All meat must be pasture raised. Entry forms can be found at http://infinitybiodynamicfarm.org/application.aspx.

Infinity Biodynamic Farm is located at 1600 McDade Store Rd. in Cedar Grove, up 86 past Hillsborough.

Eno hikes
Eno River State Park will host a few upcoming hikes to help you work off Thanksgiving dinner.

On Saturday, Nov. 17 at 11 a.m., a ranger will lead a hike on the brand-new Occoneechee Mountain Loop Trail.

On Saturday, Nov. 24 at 10 a.m., a park ranger will lead a hike to Bobbitt Hole, one of the more beautiful spots in the park. Round trip is 2.5 miles.

On Sunday, Nov. 25 at 2 p.m., hike on and off the trail while learning the history of Cabe’s Mill. Tour the homestead, cemetery and mill.

Climate forum
NC WARN and the Carolinas Clean Air Coalition will host “Averting Climate Catastrophe: Power Plants or Clean Energy - Who Decides?” at the Friday Center in Chapel Hill on Saturday, November 17 at 3 p.m.

The forum is sponsored by public groups aligned against Duke Energy’s plans to build a new coal power plant.

Speaking at the forum are Dr. James Hansen of NASA’s Goddard Institute and Mike Nicklas of Innovative Design in Raleigh.

Hansen is a highly regarded and outspoken proponent of rapid reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. At the forum, he will discuss his five-step plan for combating climate change.

Nicklas is an expert on energy efficiency, renewable energy and sustainable design. He will speak about alternatives to coal power plants.
