Joan Elizabeth Byrne, 68, of Chapel Hill passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2007, at UNC-Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Byrne was born on December 12, 1928, in Queens, NY to Charles and Elizabeth Mullet Lang. Byrne and her husband William lived in the Governors’ Club in Chapel Hill for the past 12 years and met wonderful neighbors and friends. She retired as an Executive Secretary for a major New York bank.

Morris W. Rosenberg, 87, veteran foreign correspondent and Bureau Chief for the Associated Press, died of prostate cancer at his home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on September 15, 2007.

Rosenberg graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in journalism in 1940, and was elected to the NC Journalism Hall of Fame in 1989.
During World War II, he served with the US Office of War Information in New York and with the Allied Forces Psychological Warfare Branch in Algeria, Italy, Albania, and Yugoslavia.
