Dr. Joseph Philibert Lorio died Thursday afternoon, August 16th, 2007, at Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk VA, at the age of 65. Dr Lorio was a resident of Carrboro, NC since his retirement in 2001. Previously he had been a resident of Fairfax, VA and a practicing psychiatrist in Falls Church. He was on the faculty of the Georgetown Family Center, in Washington D.C. for many years.

Lorio was a native of New Road, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Pujo Lorio and Udell Jewell Lorio. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jeanne Genre Lorio; his  children, Dr. William P. Lorio and his wife, Amy Lorio, and Renee Lorio Murphy and her husband, Sean Murphy. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Conner and Claire Murphy and Benjamin and Caroline Lorio; a sister, Jewell Rose Lorio; a brother, Paul Lorio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to the visitation on Thursday, August 23rd, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Walker’s Funeral Home, 120 West Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, NC 27516.

Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 24th at 1:30 p.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 940 Carmichael Street, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.
