Philip Wayne Cooke of Fearrington Village died at his home on July 30. He was 75. Dr. Cooke was a professor emeritus at the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Social Work and retired in 2003.
Born on January 7, 1932 in Surry County to the late Chonnie and Porter W. Cooke, he was the oldest of five sons. He grew up in Pilot Mountain and Norfolk, VA. Dr. Cooke earned undergraduate degrees from Mars Hill Junior College and Furman University. He received his master’s degree in social work from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1965, and after graduation was a social worker in the St. Paul Project in Minnesota. He directed a family and children’s services agency in Baltimore before receiving his doctorate in social work from the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Work in 1962.

Ian David Creath of Chapel Hill died July 9, 2007. He was 18.
He was a native of Guilford County and a graduate of Cedar Ridge High School. He was a rising sophomore at UNC-Chapel Hill and attended Living Hope Community Church.
A memorial service was conducted Friday, July 13, at Chapel Hill Bible Church in Chapel Hill by Dane Skelton and David Ward.

Michael Perry Thompson, 59, of Chapel Hill passed away unexpectedly at his place of employment on Friday, July 27, 2007.
He was an employee of Stump Dump in Pittsboro, NC and a former employee of UNC-Chapel Hill in the Public Safety Department. He was also a volunteer Camp Host at Jordan Lake at Crosswinds. He served in the US Army and was stationed in Korea and Germany.
